Medical University of Gdańsk
The Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG) is a modern academic centre, recognizable in the country and in the world. The University is characterized by high scientific and development potential, which consists in particular of: experienced and renowned research teams, a growing number of prestigious international publications and grants, as well as a wide range and quality of research confirmed by high categorization of units. The MUG is also the only medical university selected to the elite group of 10 best Polish universities awarded in the prestigious competition Excellence Initiative – Research University. The MUG is gradually improving in the lists of leading universities. It is the best medical university in Poland according to the latest Ranking of Academic Universities of the Educational Foundation Perspektywy.
The MUG educates over 6000 students, doctoral students and postgraduate students. There are 1020 foreign students among them, which constitutes over 16% of all students at the University. It is also more than half of all foreigners studying in Gdańsk. Every year, about 180 young people from abroad study at the MUG, which makes it the most internationalized university in Pomerania. Students benefit from a conveniently located student housing estate and a modern research library. They have at their disposal the Medical Simulation Center, a modern Sports Centre and the “Medyk” student club.
The University intensively develops scientific research, as evidenced by its leading positions in the ranking and numerous prestigious awards for employees, students and doctoral students.
Łukasz Balwicki
Dr. Habil. Łukasz Balwicki, Assoc. Prof., Physician, public health specialist. Author of many scientific publications in the field of tobacco control, including epidemiological aspects of the use of electronic cigarettes among adolescents and the anti-tobacco law. Author of practical guides in the field of help for smoking addicts. Coordinator of many anti-tobacco programs and campaigns implemented in cooperation with employers, local governments and government administration institutions. Author and leader of anti-tobacco policy programs financed by Bloomberg Initiative grants conducted in coordination with the World Health Organization and Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. He was the Deputy Director of the Social Development Department for public health at the City Hall in Gdańsk. He cooperates as an expert with WHO and The European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, and the National Institute of Public Health. Member of the Public Health Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. For over 10 years, he has been the head of the University Smoking Cessation Clinic. Academic tutor.
Agnieszka Wojtecka
Agnieszka Wojtecka, PhD, assistant professor. Author of publications in the field of public health, including qualitative research related to youth health. Co-author of reports on monitoring public health tasks. Member of research teams and co-author of studies on the mid-term evaluation of the RPO 2014-2020 for the purposes of the mid-term review in selected voivodeships in Poland. Coordinator in Poland of the WELLBEING program - Promoting the wellbeing concept at medical and public sector of the Visegrad Region, financed by Visegrad funds. Coordinator in a project co-financed by EU funds regarding an internship program for students of Environmental Health and Public Health. Academic tutor. Psychotherapist, deals with mental health problems and the promotion of mental health. Member of the Polish Society of Health Programs and the Association of Christian Psychologists.
Agata Konieczna
Agata Konieczna, assistant at the Medical University of Gdansk is a psychologist and public health specialist. She gained professional experience at Health Promotion and Addiction Prevention Centre in Gdansk and cooperating with non governmental organizations. She a is specialist in the field of addiction prevention (graduated professional courses), working with various group of people (parents, adolescents, teachers, students).
