Society of Psychiatrist, Narcologists, Psychotherapists and Clinical Psychologists from Moldova 

SPNPPC was registered on September 17, 2010 with the state identification number - fiscal code 1010620006745 and registration number MD00260
On March 9th, 2017, SPNPPC underwent reorganization and bylaws renewal, on the same date Professor Jana Chihai was elected President of SPNPPC.

International Collaborations and memberships:

  • On July 21st, 2017 SPNPPC became a member of  EPA (European Psychiatric Association) - http://www.europsy.net/about-epa/national-societies/ 
  • In July 2018 at the forum of EFPT in Bristol, UK -  SPNPPC became the 37th member of EFPT (European Federation of Psychiatric Trainees)
  • In 2020 SPNPPC became member of the WPA (World Psychiatric Association). SPNPPC President attended the World Congress of Psychiatrists, where she participated with right to vote in elections to the WPA President and Council of administration.

As of beginning of 2024 there are 372 members of SPNPPC

According to the renewed bylaws:
The purposes  of the Association are to contribute at:

  • Implement psychiatric, narcological, psychotherapeutic and psychological assistance of people with mental health problems, in accordance with the legal and medical ethical requirements;
  • implementing the rules and criteria of mental health assistance through the Society in accordance with current legislation and international criteria;
  • Recognition and accreditation of mental health professionals, psychotherapists and other related fields;
  • Promoting quality information and knowledge in psychiatry, narcology, psychotherapy and clinical psychology;
  • Promoting the interests of people with mental health problems, legislative protection of the interests of the members of society.
  • Promoting quality and inclusive services for people with mental health problems including diagnosis, treatment and recovery.


The Association is developing the following activities for the realization of its purposes:

  • Elaboration of methods, concepts, ideas regarding the knowledge and study of the phenomenon of promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms;
  • Organizing and participating in seminars, conferences, meetings, lessons, etc., in order to achieve the statutory goals by attracting qualified specialists in the priority areas of activity of the Association;
  • Organizing training and retraining courses for professionals in the field of mental health, psychotherapy, narcology, clinical psychology;
  • Elaboration, implementation / realization, evaluation and monitoring of various projects at local / national level in order to develop the socio-economic and human potential of the Republic of Moldova and to achieve the objectives of the Association.

Assc. Prof. Jana Chihai, MD, PhD

Psychiatrist and psychotherapist; Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation and Head of the Department of Mental Health, Medical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF), Chișinău; Associate Professor of Psychiatry; and Senior Mental Health Advisor for the Trimbos Institute Moldova, MENSANA project. She is also President of the National Society of Psychiatrists, Narcologists, Psychotherapists and Clinical Psychologists (SPNPPC). Dr. Chihai studied medicine and psychiatry and completed psychotherapeutic specializations at the European School of Psychotherapy, Socio- and Somatoanalysis (Strasbourg, France) and the Association of Integrative Psychotherapy and Clinical Psychology (Iași, Romania). Since 2000, she has championed community-based mental health services and has been deeply involved in the mental health reform in the Republic of Moldova.

 

Dorin Jelaga, MD

Assistant professor at the Department of mental health, medical psychology and psychotherapy, “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. A psychiatrist with secondary clinical training in pediatric psychiatry, he is a doctoral candidate and researcher in the mental health Laboratory. He engages in continuous professional development and conducts clinical, teaching, and research activity. He is co-author of a monograph and a specialty guideline, as well as papers published in conference proceedings. His scientific interests focus on translating evidence into practical interventions, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, optimizing quality and access to services, and promoting ethical standards.
 

 

Mihaela Belous, MD

Psychiatrist in her fourth year of residency and a psychotherapist in training in integrative, body-oriented psychotherapy. She is affiliated with the Department of mental health, medical psychology and psychotherapy at Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and she is a researcher in the mental health Laboratory. She is an active member of the SPNPPC. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Maastricht University. As a trainer in the Moldovan–Swiss MENSANA project supporting the reform of mental-health services, she contributes to strengthening the skills of professionals across the country. She also serves as Moldova’s liaison to the EFPT. She has presented at numerous scientific events and co-authored the monograph “Telemedicine in mental health” and the practical guide “Integrated Psychological Intervention”, which received a Gold Medal at the “Excellent Idea 2025” international exhibition. She is a trainer of trainers (ToT) in clinical de-escalation, PM+, mhGAP, and the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) approach for employment. She also helps organize national and international events that promote innovation and collaboration in mental health.
