University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer, Germany (HS Emden/Leer) is a University of Applied Sciences in the North of Germany founded in 2009. The University has a strong research focus on mental health, sustainable technology, and Nautical Sciences. To promote and research the University has identified three interdisciplinary research areas:
- Resilience in the context of health and Social Work
- Sustainable Technology
- Computer Sciences and Automation Technology.
The university offers around 40 Bachelor and master courses in Emden and Leer, including Health and Social Work, Childhood Sciences, Health and Social Work Administration, Business Sciences, Nautical Sciences, Biotechnology, Computer Sciences, and Business Psychology.
Jutta Lindert, PhD. in Health Sciences, MPH, MA
Jutta Lindert is a full professor of Public Health at the University of Applied Sciences Emden /Leer, and visiting scholar at the Woman’s Research Center at Brandeis University, Waltham, United States. Her main research expertise is neuropsychiatric epidemiology and Public Mental Health. She focusses in her research on determinants of mental health and mental health conditions in a life-course ecological approach. Jutta Lindert is president of the working group on Public Mental Health of the World Federation of Mental Health (WFPHA) and vice - president of the Section on “Public Mental Health” of the “European Association of Mental Health” (EUPHA). Currently, she is involved in several multi-centre research projects investigating determinants of mental health and resilience. Prof. Lindert is the author of more than 100 articles in the fields of neuropsychiatric epidemiology and Public Mental Health. She has edited two books published by Springer. Currently she is working on a third book on “Environment and Mental Health”.
Felix Sisenop, MA
Felix is a sociologist and health scientist and PhD student at the Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Hamburg, Germany. After studying sociology with a focus on urban and health studies at the University of Kassel, Germany (2010-2013), and the University of Vienna, Austria (2013-2016), he works in the team of Prof. Dr. Jutta Lindert in the Department of Social Work and Health. His research focuses on population-based studies on public mental health, and resilience, including geospatial analysis of mental health determinants.
Sarah Arndt, MSc
Sarah is a sociologist and epidemiologist. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Sociology (2015) and her master’s degree in Epidemiology (2018) at the University of Bremen. She works in the team of Prof. Dr. Jutta Lindert in the Department of Social Work and Health since 2020. Her research focuses on relationships and health.
Kim-Julian Behr, MA
Kim-Julian Behr is a research assistant in the team of Prof. Dr. Jutta Lindert in the department of Social Work and Health of the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer since 2021. He is a cultural anthropologist and also holds a degree in health promotion. He provides field experience in health promoting interventions and mental health service evaluation and planning. His main research interests are in public mental health, environmental health and cross-cultural perspectives.
Pallavi Ch, MSc, MPH
Pallavi is a health scientist. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Medicine, followed by a master's in psychology (2016) and public health (2022), she investigates health and mental health. She works in the team of Prof. Dr. Jutta Lindert in the Department of Social Work and Health since June 2023. Her research interests are on the impact of adverse childhood events on the mental health of young adults and improving access to healthcare.
Cornelia Ciofu, MA, MBA
Cornelia is the EARLY project administrator within the team of Prof. Dr. Jutta Lindert in the department of Social Work and Health of the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer, with a strong track record in project implementation and evaluation. Her primary focus lies in international initiatives dedicated to enhancing mental health services and outcomes. Additionally, she has received professional training in cognitive behavioral therapy (2019-2021) and holds master's degrees in clinical psychology (2019) and business administration (2014).
